The end and a beginning
The Warsaw Pact dissolved in 1991, marking the end of Cold War and the face off between NATO and the great collection of countries that Russia had gathered about it, a comfort blanket of steel and fire. Poland marched further from the Soviets and joined NATO on 12th March 1999 and about a week later I landed in Warsaw with a bicycle and tent and headed south.
